Junior Selections
There appears to be some ambiguity with regards to whether or not the reserve list would be published. However, we have now decided to publish this list BUT players and parents MUST UNDERSTAND THAT WHERE THERE IS MORE THAN ONE PLAYER, THE LIST IS NOT IN ANY SPECIFIC ORDER and should the need arise, the selectors will select the reserve player from the published list.

In order to ensure that CHESSA delivers on its mandate we, as CHESSA, would like to formalize our communication channels with the South African Chess Community.

CHESSA consists of various Unions and as such the Union, through their Presidents, have elected the CHESSA members. To ensure, we react on all questions/comments/queries from any one of you (our chess community) we will require that all communication should go via the elected Union President and should the President not be able to assist/advise you with your query he/she will then escalate it to the appropriate Committee/Commission within CHESSA via the CHESSA Secretary.

Union Presidents are kindly asked to forward their contact details to the CHESSA Secretary.

Bidding for the following 2013 events has been opened.  Deadline for submitting bids is Friday 01 June 2012 (midnight).  Please contact the CHESSA Secretary for more details.

Organisers and Arbiters, please take note of the following important message.

Tournaments where the Swiss Manager pairing software was used will only be rated if they comply with all of the following points:

  1. The correct union of each player is added in the "fed" field.  The default setting is RSA - this must be changed to reflect each player's correct union.
  2. The CHESSA ID of each player is added (for ALL existing players).  This ID must be added in the "Fide-no" field.
  3. The date-of-birth of each player is added and must be in the format yyyy/mm/dd (e.g. 2002/03/24).

The above is necessary to prevent duplication of player records and to ease the process of having the tournaments rated.

Please note that, as of 01 May 2012, any tournaments not complying with the above will not be rated.

Dear Chess player/Parent

Please note that CHESSA will unfortunately not be able to announce the junior players selected for international participation for this year by the original published deadline. We can, however, confirm that the selection process is well underway and all players will be announced by SATURDAY 5 MAY 2012.

The cause for this delay is feedback received from our recent meeting with SASCOC, on Friday 20 April, which necessitated the selectors having to revisit certain selections. We understand your frustration as we all eagerly await the announcement of the junior SA players ourselves and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.

We thank you for your patience.

Yours in Chess
Marius van Zyl
Vice President Chess South Africa
