
Chess South Africa is pleased to announce the appointment of Chené Lucritia Jeffries as the new Co-opted Secretary of the federation.
This position was previously held by Nicole Peter, who will now continue to serve as Provincial Representative. We thank Nicole for her commitment and contribution and wish her well in her continued role. We also welcome Chené to the national executive team and wish her every success in this important leadership role.
About Chené Lucritia Jeffries:
Chené is a skilled educator and passionate sport leader, currently serving as a Mathematics Educator at Curro Helderwyk, where she delivers high-quality instruction aligned with the IEB curriculum. Her role includes lesson planning, learner support, assessment development, and academic progress tracking. She also actively participates in teacher development programmes, strengthening her educational leadership, administration, and data management skills.
She holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of the Free State, majoring in Mathematics, Life Sciences, and Psychology, and is currently pursuing an Honours in Mathematics Education through North-West University.
Chené has held multiple leadership roles in chess, including President of Pixley Ka Seme Chess, Deputy President, and Secretary of the Northern Cape Chess Federation. She also served as Team Manager for the Provincial Schools Chess Team (Boys U/18) and holds a Chess Coaching Certificate (Online – Level 1).
Beyond chess, her broad sports involvement includes being a Provincial Regional Hockey Coach (Girls U/18), and she is certified in Outdoor Hockey Coaching and Umpiring (Level 0). She also holds qualifications in GeoGebra, Woeker met Wiskunde, Safeguarding Awareness, and has experience as a Quality Assurer and Matric Marker for the Northern Cape Department of Education.
With her strong foundation in education, multi-sport leadership, and commitment to youth development, Chené brings a valuable blend of expertise, integrity, and innovation to Chess South Africa. Her appointment strengthens our commitment to inclusive growth, professional governance, and meaningful transformation in the sport.
